Yohji Yamamoto POUR HOMME

Yohji Yamamoto POUR HOMME Spring / Summer 2024

Yohji Yamamoto’s main men’s collection, Yohji Yamamoto POUR HOMME expresses the world view of it’s namesake designer. The mens collection arrived in Paris in 1984, three years after making it’s debut at Paris Fashion Week for his woman’s collection, and eight years after launching his namesake line in Tokyo. His unstructured suits are still very recognisable, and his dramatic runway shows contributed to a growing reputation as an avant-garde designer - though he prefers the title of “dressmaker” despite its humble connotations. Know for his masterful fusion of traditional Japanese dress and Western daywear, Yamamoto’s billowing trousers and jackets pair textured, draped fabrics with crisp button-downs, elongated knits, and t-shirt with arresting graphics. His voluminous garments can be combined to create flowing styles that are offbeat, comfortable, and strangely elegant. Described by Yamamoto himself, his imagine of mens line is “men who do not kno who” have a free spirit without being bound by social norms. These guys are dandy but have some comical uniqueness.
